Alphabet Limited has announced a partnership with smart charging provider NewMotion, a member of the Shell Group. Alphabet is a leading provider of business mobility services, and soon its 168,000 customers will have access to NewMotion’s seamless charging experience.
Alphabet customers will also receive an almost £200 introductory discount on smart home chargers, as well as access to 2,500 public charge points, including over 800 rapid charge points. Alphabet manages a fleet of over 138,000 vehicles in the UK and more than 700,000 vehicles across 30 countries worldwide.
Alphabet is yet another meaningful business looking to support the UK in trying to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. Tesla has recently passed a milestone in SuperCharger availability with no intention of stopping. Alphabet has also worked with McDonald’s, which is soon making fast charging available at its drive-thru restaurants.
What the company can offer now with NewMotion is a more seamless electric experience for drivers travelling for business. Charging and fast charging availability is becoming more and more accessible in the UK. Zap-Map statistics reveal that there has been an increase of around 1,800 per cent in charging points over almost a decade (from 1,503 electric vehicle chargers in 2011 to 28,482 in 2019). Furthermore, the availability of public chargers spans over 11,613 locations in the UK currently, meaning charging is possible in more than just urban areas.
It’s evident that more people are learning about the benefits of owning an electric vehicle. Since March, Alphabet has already seen a 165% rise in orders on plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. Combined with rumoured scrapping schemes and generous grants, electric vehicles are becoming ever more attractive for business and personal users alike.
