MG has begin taking orders for one of the most widely anticipated electric vehicles ever. The MG Cyberster has gone from a clay-model dream to high-street reality in less than 5 years and the first deliveries are expected to happen in August this year. This innovative EV roadster will be offered in two versions: the Cyberster Trophy and the Cyberster GT, with starting prices of £54,995 and £59,995 respectively.
The Cyberster Trophy comes equipped with a single motor, offering a comprehensive seven-year, 80,000-mile warranty. This model is not just about performance but also about practicality, featuring a rear-wheel drive and scissor doors designed by Carl Gotham and the MG London team. It also boasts a fully-electric fabric hood that can be adjusted at speeds of up to 30mph. The Trophy version promises significant power with 340PS and a maximum torque of 350 lb ft, achieving 0-62mph in 5.0 seconds.
On the higher end of the spectrum, the Cyberster GT represents MG’s flagship model. As the most powerful production model in MG’s century-long history, the GT features a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup delivering 503PS and 725Nm of torque. It impressively completes the 0-62mph sprint in just 3.2 seconds.
Both models are versatile with four drive modes: Comfort, Custom, Sport, and Track. These options provide the flexibility to switch from refined, long-distance touring to performance-focused driving. The interior of the Cyberster combines luxury with technology, featuring electrically-adjustable heated seats, a distinctive heated steering wheel, and advanced kinetic regeneration systems.
To enhance the driving experience, particularly during long trips with the top down, a specially-designed wind deflector reduces air buffeting. Both the Trophy and GT variants house a 77kWh battery, offering a maximum range of 316 miles for the Trophy and 276 miles for the GT under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).
These cars can hit 121 and 125mph respectively and there is a configurator over here.
David Allison, Head of Product and Planning at MG, highlighted the Cyberster's role in transitioning grand touring into the electric age. He noted the vehicle’s design and performance as key elements in its appeal.
The development of both Cyberster models was overseen by MG’s Longbridge engineering team, known for their work on the award-winning MG4 EV. This extensive 18-month programme focused on performance and handling to ensure the vehicles are suited both for city driving and dynamic performance on open roads. Features such as Brembo brakes and three-mode regenerative braking enhance efficiency and control, complemented by 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels on the Trophy and GT, respectively.
Fast charging capabilities enable the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% within 38 minutes, ensuring that the Cyberster is both a practical and exhilarating option for electric vehicle enthusiasts.
The Cyberster also offers a suite of advanced driver assistance features through MG Pilot, including Lane Change and Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Active Emergency Braking among others.
The interior is crafted to provide a modern, connected experience with a three-screen cockpit and extensive infotainment features including Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system. Practicality is not sacrificed, with a 249-litre boot capacity and various storage solutions.
MG Motor, with its rich legacy since 1924, continues to innovate by blending its storied history with modern technology, aiming to offer sustainable and accessible mobility solutions. The launch of the Cyberster is a testament to MG's continued evolution and commitment to the future of electric vehicles.
