Tesla announces improved rates for ‘open to all’ Supercharging Network

Reduced pricing on new Teslas followed up with lower cost to charge

Tesla has revised its pricing structure for its Supercharger network in the UK, introducing a new membership model that offers lower charging rates for all electric vehicle (EV) owners. The company confirmed that as of April 13th, it moved to a membership-based system, where Tesla owners are enrolled automatically.

Having lost ground to BYD in terms of pure EV sales, Tesla is now launching a marketing initiative in an area where it knows it can win – its Supercharger Network. We recently discussed product pricing with a senior member of Tesla's management team. When we asked, “So how long before we will be able to buy a Tesla for £20-25,000?” – we got a wry smile along with the reply, there's one over there. The Tesla chap was pointing to a two year old Model 3 Standard Range. For now, that's all Tesla has to compete with the up-coming flood of decent quality Chinese options arriving in European markets.

Under the new system, the monthly fee for accessing reduced Supercharger rates has been cut from £10.99 to £8.99. Additionally, Tesla has launched an annual membership option costing £90, which represents a 16% saving compared to the monthly membership fees over a year.

The membership provides all EV owners with more economical options for using the Supercharger network. Non-members can still use the Superchargers, but at higher rates. The company stated that it will continue to update these rates regularly to ensure that charging remains accessible and fast for all EV drivers.

Tesla's Supercharger network in the UK and Ireland includes more than 1,400 Superchargers spread across 140 sites, with 42 of these sites offering CCS charging that is accessible to all EVs. This network features both V4 Superchargers, which allow contactless card payments, and V3 Superchargers, which operate through the Tesla app.

Tesla also noted that their network is the largest public fast-charging system in Europe and is predominantly accessible to non-Tesla EVs. The company plans to expand the number of Superchargers in the near future to further support the growing demand from EV owners.

Tesla users who wish to benefit from the reduced rates must ensure their Tesla app is updated to version 4.32 or above. Customers with an active membership will automatically see their monthly fee reduced, or they can opt to switch to the annual plan.

This update aims to provide a seamless and integrated Supercharging experience for Tesla owners while extending affordable charging options to the broader EV community.
