Mini has unveiled its next generation, all-electric Countryman and Cooper models at the IAA International Motor Show in Munich – with uprated performance and extended range. Seeing a Countryman with 287 miles WLTP will be good news for Mini-lovers who were disappointed with the limited range of the earlier versions.
The fifth generation, all electric Mini Cooper is priced from £30,000 OTR, while the third generation Countryman model’s starting price is over £40,000 RRP. Customer deliveries for both the vehicles will commence in early 2024, the company told WhichEV.
The all-electric drive Cooper is available in either E and SE output levels, offering 190 miles and 250 miles of electric range respectively. The Cooper E hosts a high-voltage battery with 40.7 kWh of capacity which provides up to 190 miles of electric range according to the WLTP test cycle. A 135 kW/184 hp electric motor generates a torque of 290 Nm and accelerates the vehicle from 0 to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds, the company said.
With an output of 160 kW/218 hp, the Cooper SE sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds with a maximum torque of 330 Nm, with the calculated range increasing to a maximum of 250 miles, helped by a battery capacity of 54.2 kWh. For comparison, when it launched back in the 1960s, the original Mini Cooper took almost twice as long to hit 60mph.
The vehicle can be charged via 11 kW AC charging, 75 kW DC charging and 95 kW DC charging. This means at a fast-charging station, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes.
The Countryman variant, which gained 6 centimetres in height and 13 centimetres in length, offering the versatility of a compact crossover, also comes with E and SE performance levels. The Countryman E hosts a high-powered battery with 64.7 kWh capacity, that provides up to 287 miles of electric range according to the WLTP test cycle. A 150 kW/204 hp electric motor generates a torque of 250 Nm, propelling the vehicle from 0 – 62 mph in 8.6 seconds, continuing to a top speed of 105 mph. With an output of 230 kW/313 hp, the electric motor in the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 achieve a combined torque of 494 Nm, accelerating the vehicle from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 111 mph. Equipped with the same battery as the Countryman E, the electric range is 269 miles.

“With its electric drive and purist design, the new Mini Cooper is a perfect fit for an urban lifestyle,” said Stefanie Wurst, Head of Mini. Referring to the Countryman model, she added, “Its versatility and powerful electric drive make it the perfect companion in the city as well as for adventures beyond.”
The launch of these new models, will no doubt create a lot of second hand bargains for the previous design.
