Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV goes on sale in the UK

The first ever all-electric Volkswagen SUV, the ID.4, has finally arrived on the market as the 1st Edition goes on sale in the UK.

This is the second VW EV based on the dedicated MEB platform following last year’s debut of the already widely popular ID.3. The ID.4 1st Edition will cost £37,800 after the plug-in vehicle grant is applied. The car is expected to arrive in dealerships during March.

The all-electric SUV will have an impressive WLTP range of 310 miles from its 77-kWh battery capacity. It will also benefit from rapid charging compatibility of up to 125 kW with the ability to add up to 199 miles of range in just 30 minutes.

The ID.4 will have a total of 204 PS of power and 310 Nm of torque instantly available that will push the car from 0 to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and to maximum speed of 99 mph. This electric SUV will come with the Volkswagen brand’s high-voltage battery warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles.

Like the ID.3 1st Edition, Volkswagen will equip the ID.4 1st Edition with several features that it will mark it apart from future ID.4 models. These include internal and external ‘1st’ badging, and a striking interior with Florence Brown highlights. Also, four metallic exterior paint colours will be available: Glacier White, Blue Dusk, Manganese Grey and Honey Yellow.

The ID.4 will be manufactured at the Zwickau plant facility where the ID.3 is also produced. The iconic factory has been repurposed for the manufacturing of all-electric vehicles after VW’s hefty investment. It is expected that soon another five factories on three continents will be producing the new electric SUV.

The ID.4 is an important step towards the all-electric future of the company, according to ID. Family Product Manager at Volkswagen UK, Joe Laurence.

“With the popularity of SUVs as high as ever, we are proud to be introducing our first all-electric contender in the form of the ID.4,” he said. “Its external dimensions are similar to the Tiguan, but thanks to the MEB platform and the packaging benefits of an electric drivetrain it boasts even more interior space along with that all-important lofty driving position.”
