New Tesla Model 3 has 82kWh battery, 9% larger than original

Tesla has now confirmed that the new generation of Model 3 will be equipped with a new 82 kWh battery pack, thanks to new and more energy-dense battery cells produced by Panasonic.

It is reported that the 2021 Model 3 Long Range Dual Motors AWD will boast a new record range of 353 miles on a single charge (EPA Ratings), or 360 WLTP miles.

Panasonic said that it will increase the energy density of cells produced at the Gigafactory in Nevada by 5% and the total output by 10%. However, these new cells will still be 2170 battery cells and not the new 4680 cells developed by Tesla and unveiled at Battery Day in September. But they could also be benefiting from some chemistry improvements developed by Tesla for its new cell format.

This is another great benchmark achieved by Tesla, whose products seem unmatchable by rivals. We recently reported how the Californian company is also on the verge of creating a 2 million miles battery, which could completely revolutionise the industry. This new battery, according to the Tesla team’s results, has so far performed extremely well after up to 15,000 cycles.

Also, Tesla has recently made headlines for rolling out the newest version of its fully autonomous Full Self Driving (FSD) software to a small number of beta testers in the United States.

Tesla is constantly innovating and changing the playing field and it is quite understandable how this electric car manufacturer has now become the most valuable car company in the world surpassing Toyota.
