Elon Musk has announced that Tesla is not planning the production of the Model S Plaid+ any more.
After seeing the Model S Plaid breaking the world record of fastest production car ever, the volatile billionaire has decided that there is no need for a Plus version of the model as this EV is already outstanding enough.
The Tesla Model S Plaid broke the world record for the quarter mile with a jaw-dropping 9.2-seconds time and an impressive top speed of 153 mph.
As WhichEV reported, the Plaid will be the greatest EV ever made by Tesla as it will be equipped with three motors, “carbon-sleeved rotors” and torque vectoring. The Plaid will generate 1,020 horsepower, boasting a 2.0-second 0-to-60 mph time, a 200-mph top speed and a 390-mile range.
The new blisteringly fast EV won’t come cheap as it is expected to have a starting price of £110,980.
The news of the cancellation of the Plaid+ does not come as a surprise as the production date of this version had been pushed back from late 2021 to mid 2022, and its starting price increased to $149,990. Also, just a couple of weeks ago, the Plaid+ option became no longer selectable in Tesla's online design studio, although it is still shown.
The four-door sedan offers hypercar performance with outstanding range and it is hard to see how any other manufacturer could compete with the Plaid. It will be interesting to see how the Lucid Air will stand out against this Model S. The Air is in fact the only EV that promises to be as exciting. As WhichEV reported, Lucid said its EV will have an incredible 517 miles range and more than 600 horsepower with a 0 to 62 mph time of 2.5 seconds.
The official release date for the Tesla Model S Plaid has not been announced yet. The car is expected to land sometime in early 2022.
