Volkswagen reveals official pictures of ID.4 electric SUV

The new Volkswagen ID.4 has finally a face as the automaker is revealing to the world what the new all-electric compact SUV looks like.

The ID.4 is one of the first models that the VW is starting to produce with the new MEB dedicated electric platform. As we recently reported, the production of the vehicle has just started at the newly converted Zwickau plant.

The German team has spent a lot of time trying to create a unique product and according to the Head of Design for the Volkswagen Group Klaus Zyciora, they have achieved this goal.

“The ID.4 represents an electric design evolution,” he says. “Its exterior design is clean, flowing and powerful. It appears strong and self-confident in a new way. This is mainly due to the seamless, aerodynamic style of our ID. family, which we have transferred to the SUV segment for the first time with the ID.4.”

The German giant spent a lot of resources trying to create an elegant vehicle but also to make sure that with the current design there would be a very small drag coefficient. The ID.4 has an excellent drag coefficient of 0.28, which is perfect to optimise the vehicle’s range.

As part of its “Transform 2025+” strategy, the Volkswagen brand will invest 11 billion euros in electric mobility by 2024. The ID.4 is the first all-electric SUV from Volkswagen. Clearly the company is focusing heavily on its electric future as it has also spent over €1.2 billion to convert Zwickau to e-mobility.

A few weeks ago, we reported that a Chinese website leaked the pictures of the new ID.4 and we can now confirm that those were real as the car in the official images shared by Volkswagen looks the same.

The new SUV will initially be launched with rear-wheel drive, and an electric all-wheel drive variant will follow at a later stage.
