World RX: Kristoffersson signs off season in style in Germany

After securing the 2022 World RX championship title in Spain last month, Johan Kristoffersson finished top of the podium in the all-electric rallycross series season finale.

The 33-year-old Swede dominated the 2022 season with eight victories from ten rounds, becoming one of the most successful rallycross drivers in history.

“This is a huge team effort and the KMS guys and girls have delivered a perfect car all year,” acknowledged Kristoffersson. “Every win we’ve achieved has been for our loyal partners and everybody involved in this project who put the whole package together from zero.”

After picking up a five-second penalty for cutting a corner in heat two, Kristoffersson went a full eight tenths-of-a-second faster than his nearest rival in the single-lap SuperPole shootout. In the final race, he took the chequered flag more than a second-and-a-half clear to cement the 35th success of his glittering World RX career.

Kevin Hansen emerged second, however; he was subsequently disqualified from the final due to a technical infringement that gifted Niclas Grönholm the runner-up spoils.

Timmy Hansen – for much of the weekend Kristoffersson’s closest competitor – wound up third after coming off worst in the three-way first corner shuffle, with Ole Christian Veiby placing fourth.

The Lancia Delta Integrale, the iconic Italian rallycross car also joined the World RX this weekend in its electric form, Lancia Delta Evo-e-RX. Guerlain Chicherit, who was in the cockpit of the legendary ‘hot hatch,’ showed encouraging pace before hitting a heavy kerb strike in the semi-final race and breaking the car’s suspension.
