Extreme-E: RXR targets top of the podium finish at Island X-Prix

After claiming the 2022 Extreme-E season opener, Rosberg X Racing (RXR) is once again aiming for victory as the electric off-road racing series heads to Sardinia, Italy for the Island X-Prix.

The 2016 Formula 1 world champion, Nico Roseberg’s squad scored 30 points at the Desert X-Prix in Saudi Arabia, with a comfortable buffer of 12 points against Acciona | Sainz XE Team, and Lewis Hamilton’s X44 sitting third in the championship on 15 points.

A big crash from McLaren’s Tanner Foust triggered the race to restart at the end of lap 1 of the Desert X-Prix while Johan Kristoffersson, RXR’s first driver, snatched the win from X44 in the final lap.

Though they missed out on the top spot, the Acciona | Sainz XE Team came second, their best finish in Extreme E since the Arctic X-Prix in Greenland last year.

After finishing fastest in the qualifier and securing first place in the semi-final, X44 started off strong in the X-Prix but had to settle for third place on the podium.

Nonetheless, with 60 points up for grabs, Extreme-E will return to Sardinia for the series’ first-ever double-header event, co-organised by the Automobile Club d'Italia and Regione Sardegna (6-7 and 9-10 July).

The 2021 reigning champions, RXR, have won four races from a total of six in Extreme-E so far, including last year’s Island X-Prix.
