Citroën has announced that the Citroën Berlingo and SpaceTourer MPVs are now only available as 100% electric models.
The petrol and diesel variants have been discontinued and the price of the electric versions have been reduced so that customers can still benefit from the recently revised plug-in grant.
Only electric cars that cost under £32,000 are eligible for the £1,500 plug-in grant and so the standard ë-Berlingo version now starts at £30,995, down from £32,075. Once the grant has been applied it costs £29,495.
The ë-SpaceTourer now starts from £30,295 with the grant applied.
Citroën has made these changes to accelerate its energy transition strategy, ensure customers have a much lower total cost of ownership and to provide customers with solutions in line with future trends.
Fuel-powered versions of the Berlingo Van and Dispatch will continue to be available in LCV form and the Grand C4 SpaceTourer that has an internal combustion engine will still be included in the range, according to the automaker.
Any orders placed until now will be delivered during 2022, but Citroen has not been any more specific given the current global chip shortage situation.
Launched in the UK in November last year, the new Citroën ë-Berlingo Electric is a practical and spacious van that is available in two body lengths – a five-seater Medium and seven-seater XL.
With a 100kW electric motor (136hp) and 50kWh battery pack, the ë-Berlingo can rack up 174 miles of WLTP range. It can be recharged to 80% in 30 minutes using a 100kW public fast charger.
Citroën said its fully electric ë-SpaceTourer is a “large, modern and versatile MPV,” allowing up to nine people to travel in comfort. This also has a 50kWh battery connected to a 100kW (136hp) electric motor. The 50kWh battery gives it an official WLTP range of up to 143 miles and offers the same ease of charging as the ë-Berlingo.
