Polestar wins prestigious award from Red Dot

Polestar has been awarded Brand of the Year by Red Dot in the internationally renowned contest’s Brands & Communication category. The jury members individually viewed and evaluated the 6,992 entries submitted in an online jury session, selecting the best-designed brands and communication projects of 2020. This achievement does not come as a surprise as Polestar excels for its safety and design features making it one of the most intriguing brands in the world.

We reported a couple of months ago how the EV subsidiary of Volvo has been working very hard to achieve new safety levels. The company has introduced new technology that will protect lithium batteries better in the event of an accident and prevent them from catching fire. The new feature called ‘SPOC Block’ (Severe Partial Offset Crash) minimises the intrusion of the wheel and other objects into the cabin or towards the battery pack during partially offset frontal collisions.

What makes this brand an outstanding recipient is also due to the slick designs and technologies of its models as the new Precept clearly shows. This model has one of the most interesting design concepts that we have seen at WhichEV as the engineers worked hard to create a frame that has the least resistance possible to the wind in order to improve range. Engineers even created flush door handles as well as flush integration of the glasshouse in order to remove all air flow disturbances.

The Precept, even from the technological point of view, is outstanding as it has an eye-tracking feature that monitors where the driver is looking and adjusts the way information is presented: smaller and more detailed when the driver is focused on the display, and larger, brighter, with just vital information when focused on the road.

The brand did not simply concentrate on its cutting-edge technology and slick designs as the Polestar 2 shows that they can also produce powerful mainstream models. In terms of specification, this EV promises a motor with 300 kW (408 hp) delivering 660 Nm through an all-wheel drive system propelling it from 0 to 62 in under 5 seconds.  All of that power comes with a price tag under £50,000, which is way less than its rival Tesla Model 3.

The new Polestar 2, as we recently reported, has already started production in China and it will soon be available in the country and subsequently in Europe.

At WhichEV, we believe that the Polestar brand truly deserves this award as its models keep pushing EV boundaries to be better and to be at the forefront of technology innovation. We cannot wait to test-drive them and tell you if they are worth your money.
