Tesla opens another supercharger in France to mark the 800th location in Europe

Tesla switched on another charging point in France, expanding its network to 800 locations in Europe, the world’s largest EV maker has announced.

With the opening of its first Supercharger in Latvia earlier in June, it now boasts nearly 9,000 superchargers in over 30 countries across Europe, the American EV giant said.

The Avignon Supercharger, on the way to Marseille and the French Riviera, has 28 stalls to cater to Tesla’s growing customer base in Europe, the company said. The Nebbenes location in Norway still holds the record of the largest site with 44 Superchargers, it added.

The company had only six European locations in August 2013, each having four stalls. “We are now averaging a little over 11 Supercharger per location,” the company said.

Improved battery and charging technologies allow for faster charging speed, now up to 250 kW because of V3 superchargers, Tesla said.

Tesla now boasts the largest public ultra-rapid charging (greater than 150 kW) network in Europe, the company said. Launched in November 2021, its non-Tesla supercharger pilot has continued to expand to new sites and countries. It is now live in 13 markets, for a total of over 250 locations and 3600 superchargers.

The company said it would continue to expand in the months to come to more countries and stations. In the UK, there are nearly 100 supercharger locations and over 900 stalls. The company’s latest UK charging point is situated in Redbridge, Oxford. It also said that 12 supercharger stalls are located at Redbridge Park and Ride and form part of the Oxford Energy Superhub.
