InstaVolt sets up eight-charger hub on A5 in Wales’s Rhug Estate

EV charge point network, InstaVolt, has opened its latest rapid EV charging hub at Rhug Estate to commuters on the A5.

The eight-charger hub, equipped with 120kW chargers, is located at the Rhug Estate farm shop car park, three miles west of Corwen, where traffic from Manchester and Chester meets the main A5, the company said.

The site will mainly serve holidaymakers due to its prominent location, but the installation was driven by demand in the local area. Referring to a report by the Department for Transport, the company said Denbighshire has a very low ratio of EV charging devices to its population; therefore, the additional eight chargers will help address this problem.

“As electric vehicle usage continues to rise, there is a significant desire for rapid charging points across Wales,” said Adrian Keen, CEO of InstaVolt.

Owner of Rhug Estate Lord Newborough added that their customers were waiting for the hub to go live. “Rhug is the gateway to Snowdonia and the West coast of Wales, so it is a natural stopping off point to recharge your car and enjoy a nice break in the farm shop and café here,” he said. “Electric Vehicles are a growing part of what we are doing at Rhug and this electric vehicle charging project plays a big part in enabling us and our customers to achieve net zero carbon emissions.”

InstaVolt has been installing rapid charge points. It increased its network by over 45 per cent in the past year alone. Following its acquisition by EQT Infrastructure earlier this year, the company is working towards a target of 10,000 rapid EV chargers by 2032.
