Sustainable energy company Gridserve has set up two high power, 350kW-capable, electric super hubs that can deliver 100 miles range in less than 10 minutes at Moto Severn View and Moto Heston.
Gridserve, in collaboration with Moto, the UK’s largest motorway services operator, added six high power electric high-power chargers at Moto Severn View and 11 at Moto Heston. The development is as part of the company’s ongoing nationwide expansion of charging facilities for EV motorists. More charges can be installed at these sites if demand rises, it said.
The company said these new electric super hubs will be supplied by renewable energy.
In 2022, the two partners have already added 53 high power chargers across six new electric super hubs in historically underserved areas of the UK, including Swansea, Exeter, Thurrock and Burton-in-Kendal.
Currently the Gridserve high power charging points are available at the following Moto service areas: Moto Rugby, Moto Swansea, Moto Exeter, Moto Burton in Kendal, Moto Thurrock, Moto Severn View, and Moto Heston.
All the new chargers will be online immediately and serve EV motorists setting off to South Wales and the Southwest, or those making day trips in London. All the chargers at Moto locations have been designed to feature both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, accept contactless payments and provide at least one extra-wide accessible charging bay for every six EV charging spaces, the company said.
The electric super hubs provide real-time status updates shared with a myriad of the most popular EV charging maps, including Zap-Map, that will help drivers know about the availability of chargers before arriving on site.
Commenting on the occasion, Toddington Harper, CEO of Gridserve said the company’s aim is to provide the infrastructure required to help drivers make the switch from fossil fuels to electric in the swiftest possible time frames.
Access to charging points has increased by 335 per cent since 2016, with the UK tally currently standing at nearly 31,000 public charging devices, the company said, adding these figures do not tell the full story. It said access to reliable charging points is particularly important on the motorway network, where drivers travel longer haul and require quicker and more convenient high-powered charging.
