Preview shots of Maserati GranTurismo Folgore revealed with Stellantis CEO driving

Maserati has announced that an all-electric prototype Maserati GranTurismo Folgore coupé has taken to the streets for the first time.

Stellantis chief executive Carlos Tavares drove the prototype car to the Eternal City’s Formula E circuit for the 2022 Rome E-Prix.

The GranTurismo will be the first model in Maserati history to adopt 100% electric solutions and will debut on the market in 2023.

It is being manufactured at the Mirafiori production hub in Turin, Italy.

The automaker said: “A true icon for the brand, it will offer the characteristic Maserati sound as well as cutting-edge technical solutions, superb performance, comfort and elegance, all typical of the Trident.”

As Maserati is looking to innovate with new technology, this made Formula E an appropriate racing series to join.

WhichEV reported that Maserati will become the first Italian marque to join the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in 2023.

We also reported that Maserati will become the first brand to produce an entirely electric luxury range – the Folgore (which means “lightning” in Italian, appropriately).

The GranTurismo will be the first car to launch in the range, with the full range expected by 2025, including the Grecale Folgore SUV.
