Ford expands its UK charging network with new EQUANS partnership

Ford drivers are to benefit from a boost in the number of chargers available in their network owing to Ford’s new partnership with EQUANS.

This agreement with EQUANS, who own and operate GeniePoint, will see Ford’s BlueOval charging network expand to more than 16,000 chargepoints in the UK and 300,000 chargepoints across Europe.

GeniePoint has more than 500 rapid chargepoints making it the third largest rapid charging network in the UK. All these rapid chargers can now be used using the Ford Pass app.

Ford has produced two award-winning EVs this year – with the performance version of the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E and the E-Transit van, which recently picked up a Gold Award from the Euro NCAP.

Tim Nicklin, Ford’s electrification manager, said: “The new Mustang Mach-E, and our plug-in hybrids, are propelling Ford at pace towards electrified engines accounting for more than half of our car sales by the end of 2022.

“Key to this roll-out is providing Ford customers with a supporting infrastructure and now, together with GeniePoint, we continue our commitment to match more electrified vehicles with enough locations to charge them.”

Dee Humphries, managing director of EQUANS’ EV Solutions business, added: “We’re delighted to be linking with Ford to provide their drivers with access to our rapidly growing GeniePoint network. This partnership reflects our focus at GeniePoint, which is to make it as easy as possible for EV drivers to get a charge whenever and wherever they need it.”

The Mach-E GT can do 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and the Extended Range RWD version holds a Guinness World Record for the shortest charge time on Britain’s longest journey between John O’Groats and Land’s End.
