Ford E-Transit takes Gold in Euro NCAP safety tests

Ford has announced that its pure electric Ford E-Transit van has picked up a Gold Award from the Euro NCAP for its comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems.

The E-Transit’s safety features include pre‑collision assist with pedestrian detection, intelligent adaptive cruise control with traffic sign recognition, blind spot information system with lane change warning & aid, junction assist, a 360-degree camera and reverse brake assist.

Ford now boasts the only two vehicles in the 2-tonne segment with Euro NCAP’s Gold Award for driver assistance, with its diesel-powered Transit taking the first award back in December 2020.

“Euro NCAP is a byword for vehicle safety, and the organisation extending its Gold Award to E‑Transit is testament to Ford’s commitment to customer safety across its commercial vehicle range,” said Stuart Southgate, director of safety engineering at Ford of Europe.

“E‑Transit’s advanced driver assistance systems help look after drivers and other road users, and support operators looking to maximise uptime while limiting insurance and accident repair costs.”

The E-Transit’s safety features were tested in various situations, such as when a vehicle in front brakes sharply or when a child runs out into the road, to see how the van would respond.

These scenarios were intended to imitate what is likely to happen in urban environments where Ford’s E-Transit is expected to operate.

The Euro NCAP tests follow Ford’s own rigorous testing regime, which we reported last year.

Customer deliveries of the E-Transit van are due to begin in spring this year.
