Citroën’s quirky AMI confirmed for UK launch next year as reservations open

Citroën has announced that the zero-emissions Citroën AMI will be available to UK customers from spring 2022 and has opened online reservations.

So far more than 12,000 customers have already registered an interest in purchasing the quadricycle.

There is a 5.5kWh battery that recharges in three hours from a standard electric socket, giving a range of 46 miles and a top speed of 28mph.

Only 2.41m in length, with an “incredibly tight” turning circle, the Citroën AMI is an easy solution for short commutes, navigating busy streets and fitting into narrow parking spaces.

But as you can probably imagine, this does not leave a huge amount of room inside where this is space for the driver, one passenger and one small item of luggage.

Citroën says the quadricycle will stay left-hand-drive, but neatly points out that this will allow a kerbside exit from the vehicle when parking at the roadside in city centres.

Being 100% electric also means it will be exempt from any Congestion or Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) charges, which becomes more significant with London’s ULEZ expansion on October 25th.

Eurig Druce, Managing Director of Citroën UK, said: “I am absolutely delighted to announce that Citroën AMI is launching in the UK. With cities and urban areas introducing stricter limits for vehicles, and people demanding new mobility solutions, AMI shows once again how Citroën is adapting to meet the demands of the times. Citroën AMI is a new all-electric mobility solution for the UK that’s totally unique – fun, exciting and accessible to all.”

While Citroën is yet to disclose any pricing, prospective buyers are being invited to secure their AMI with a £250 refundable deposit through their website.
