Volkswagen officially announces GTX performance model of ID.4

Volkswagen has announced that it will add a new sport range to the ID.4, the GTX.

The first sporty top-of-the-range electric model will be unveiled to the world on April 28th. The GTX range will be the performance logo for EVs in the same way GTI and GTE are for internal combustion engine models.

We were hoping for a GTX version when we reviewed the ID.4 1st Edition.

Volkswagen has said that the GTX will be ‘impressive when it comes to performance and design’. An additional electric motor on the front axle will bring all-wheel drive to the ID. Family, designed for maximum efficiency. The additional motor switches on intelligently within a few milliseconds when very high performance or strong traction are required. In the new “Traction” driving mode, it is even permanently activated.

The new sporty EV models will help connect Volkswagen tradition to its all-electric future, according to Klaus Zellmer, Board Member for Marketing and Sales at the Volkswagen brand.

“The letters GT have long stood for driving pleasure,” he said. “Now the X is building the bridge to the mobility of the future. Sustainability and sportiness are not mutually exclusive but complement each other intelligently.”

Could the drivetrain in the dual-motor Audi Q4 e-tron make its way to the ID.4 GTX?

The new product brand for the ID. family gives a further boost to its electric strategy. Volkswagen wants to become the most desired brand for sustainable mobility.

As we reported, the company has announced that the goal is to increase the share of pure electric cars in Europe to 70 percent of sales by 2030. Volkswagen wants to become climate neutral by 2050; around 16 billion euros will be invested in e-mobility, hybridisation and digitization by 2025.

As we are waiting for the GTX, the ID.4 and ID.3 are already available for UK costumers.
