The Polestar 2 has achieved a 5-star rating from the Euro NCAP safety assessment programme making it one of the safest vehicles currently on the market.
As we reported, Polestar has always focused on making sure that its vehicles are the safest ones available. The European New Car Assessment Programme has released its report on the Polestar 2, and it shows that the EV has excelled in all the categories.
As Polestar is owned by Volvo, the car’s crashworthiness was naturally a top priority. The new EV was developed in the Volvo Safety Centre in Gothenburg, in order to achieve the highest level of safety possible, according to Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.
“Volvo Cars is one of our founders and by sharing their expertise with us, safety is a core competence in our cars,” he said. “This shows in the excellent Euro NCAP rating of Polestar 2.”
Safety equipment is of the highest order. This ranges from eight airbags including the only inner-side airbags currently fitted to a premium EV that has been tested by Euro NCAP, to the Front Lower Load Path and Severe Partial Offset Collision (SPOC) Block. These features are designed to mitigate impact on the battery pack and passenger compartment alike.
Also, the Polestar 2 is equipped with the highly advanced Pilot Assist driver assistance system using a radar and a camera to help with acceleration, braking and steering at speeds of up to 130 km/h.
The Polestar 2 is a worthy rival of the Model 3. It is powered by an electric powertrain supported by a 78kWh battery that produces an amazing 404 horsepower and has a WLTP range of 292 miles. The EV has a starting price of £46,900.
The UK public will now be able to go see the new Polestar 2 in person once lockdown is over as we reported that the company has opened a showroom in the heart of London at the Westfield White City shopping centre.
