Renault now best-selling EV manufacturer in Europe

It has been a great year for Renault as the company is now Europe’s number one electric vehicle manufacturer.

The French giant is leading European electric vehicle market sales with 95,985 units sold year-to-date to the end of November 2020. Compared to last year, this figure represents a monumental 80% increase in registrations.

This result was achieved in large part thanks to its compact EV, the Zoe. This car remains the number one most sold electric passenger car in Europe. More than 84,000 Zoes have been sold since January 2020, almost double compared to 2019. The car has been a huge success since its launch in 2014 with more than 268,000 units sold in Europe.

The new Zoe is the perfect urban electric vehicle, featuring a new 100kW R135 electric motor, and a 52kWh battery across the entire model selection, providing enhanced acceleration along with up to 245 miles (WLTP) all-electric range on a full charge. At the same time, a new 50kW DC charging option will re-charge the battery from zero to 80 percent capacity in just one hour and five minutes.

Renault also hit another homerun with the Kangoo Z.E as they sold 8,498 units, which represents almost one in three electric vans. The Kangoo Z.E. Business+ is powered by a 33kWh battery and 44kW motor, for a 143-mile (WLTP) range.

Lastly, the French company has also sold 31,000 Twizy and offered the new Master Z.E. van, providing up to 3.5 tons of payload.

The company has the goal of reaching net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050 and slashing emissions in half by 2030. Also, by 2022, all of Renault’s new models will have an electric or electrified version.

The company recently unveiled its two newest electric vehicles, the Renault Megane eVision which will be part of the hatchback C-segment and it will be based on the newest dedicated platform CMF-EV, and the Dacia Spring. This compact car will be equipped with a 33kW engine and a 26.8 kWh battery and will have a 295 km/183-mile WLTP City range, or 225 km/140 miles combined WLTP.
