Lunaz to create electric classic Range Rovers

Lunaz has announced that it is set to begin production of all-electric classic Range Rovers.

The English company is an expert in restoring and electrifying classic cars.  We reported few weeks ago on its latest project, an all-electric Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The company, based in Silverstone, will create an initial run of 50 units of the luxury SUVs built in the ‘classic era’ between 1970 and 1994.

Lunaz will offer electric classic Range Rovers in both ‘Town’ and ‘Country’ specification. The more urban expression of these cars will be presented with increased focus on rear-seat and driver comfort, reflecting their dual use as either owner-driven luxury vehicles or chauffeured cars.

Conversely, the ‘Country’ specification will include a full suite of engineering, technology and design as it will include a 4-wheel drive system, updated suspension including anti-roll bars and uprated brakes.

Every car by Lunaz goes through a full bare metal restoration and re-engineering process ahead of conversion to the company’s proprietary electric powertrain. This approach balances the integration of technology and usability within a classic architecture.

The electric Range Rovers by Lunaz will be quite pricey as they will start at £245,000 excluding local taxes. The first production tranche of 50 vehicles is currently being allocated with first customer deliveries anticipated for the summer of 2021.

The company will also offer the possibility to have fully roofless options. However, since this model is quite rare to find on the market, Lunaz will take existing conventionally bodied Range Rover classics and convert them to what the firm is calling ‘Safari Specification’ as part of the full bare metal restoration and re-engineering process.

The attention to every detail is what sets these cars apart as each one of them is an individual customer build. Customers will be invited to work with Design Director Jen Holloway and her team to specify features to augment their own lifestyle requirements.

The Range Rover is just another example that shows the endless possibilities to transform almost any ICE vehicle into battery electric, according to Lunaz Founder David Lorenz.

“The commencement of production of the first electric classic Range Rovers demonstrates the scope of vehicles that can be re-engineered and given an entirely new life through conversion to our proprietary electric powertrain,” he said.
