Compact electric vans coming from Vauxhall, Peugeot and Citroen in 2021

Groupe PSA is set to launch all-electric versions of its compact van across all its brands in 2021.

Following the 2020 launch of electric versions of the company’s medium van models (D-Van) and large van (E-Van), the four brands, Vauxhall, Opel, Peugeot and Citroën, will complete their line-ups in 2021 with all-electric versions of their compact van (B-Van) and associated passenger cars.

The electric vans and the battery packs will be assembled at the Vigo plant (Galicia, Spain), the electric motors in Tremery (France) and the final drive gears in Valenciennes (France). The powertrain is composed of a water-cooled 50kWh electric battery, which allows power outputs of up to 100kW, and a 100kW/136hp electric motor.

The Group's objective is to offer a fully electrified portfolio by 2025 and this is only the first step towards that goal, according to Xavier Peugeot, Senior Vice-President of Groupe PSA’s Light Commercial Vehicles Business Unit.

“With these all-electric versions of compact vans and associated passenger cars, Groupe PSA is continuing its electrification offensive and now offers a completely electrified LCV portfolio without compromises on performance,” he said.

This is just the latest move by the Groupe PSA towards its all-electric future as we reported few months ago the company’s announcement of a new dedicated eVMP platform that will offer 60 to 100 kWh of embedded energy and an optimised architecture that exploits the entire sub-floor for the battery. Also, it will be expected to have an all-electric range from 250 miles (400 km) to 400 miles (650 km) using the WLTP system.

We also reported that Citroën, one of the brands of the PSA Groupe, has also announced it will start taking orders for its new all-electric e-C4. The compact hatchback will also feature a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 100kW (136hp) electric motor with a WLTP-approved range of up to 217 miles on a single charge.
