A consortium of 28 electric vehicles companies, including Tesla, Lucid and Rivian, have joined forces to create a new organisation called ZETA.
The Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) will push for 100% electric vehicle sales throughout the light-, medium-, and heavy-duty sectors by 2030 at a national level in the US.
Just a few weeks ago, California announced a new ban on the sales of internal combustion engines vehicle from 2035. However, it is important that the other states follow suit as in order to achieve net zero greenhouse emissions there must be a switch to battery electric vehicles, according to Executive Director of ZETA, Joe Britton.
“For the first time in a generation, transportation is the leading emitter of U.S. carbon emissions,” he said. “ZETA’s formation recognizes a pivotal moment for national leadership and reflects the will of the growing clean transportation sector. The next decade will be critical in implementing federal policies that accelerate the transition to zero emissions vehicles and help address these problems head-on.”
On the agenda of the newly founded organisation there are consumer incentives that can provide cost reductions for EV adoption, which would ultimately speed the transition. Also, ZETA is focusing on introducing key emissions targets by 2030 in order to accelerate the push towards electrification.
These electric companies are also calling for major investments in order to have a wide and reliable charging infrastructure. Lastly, they highlighted the need for federal policies that must encourage job creation and economic activity across the entire EV supply chain and lifecycle, from critical materials to vehicles.
This is not only the latest international move towards the all-electric revolution as we reported that the UK government has also confirmed that sales of diesel and petrol in Britain will stop in 2030.
