Hyundai enters top ten EV sales chart on Carwow

The popular car sales service Carwow has released figures that show which are the most popular EVs sold in 2020. According to the company, the Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe and Peugeot E-208 take the top 3 spots in its 2020 Best Selling EVs, year-to-date. But in fourth place, newly arrived post-lockdown, is the Hyundai Kona, which we reported few weeks ago has beaten the 600 miles range wall.

It is interesting to see how the list of bestsellers has changed post-Covid. Whilst the Volkswagen E-Golf holds 5th place year-to-date, it dropped out of the Carwow Best Selling EV league table post pandemic. This situation is probably attributable to the fact that the German company has announced the launches of the ID.3 and ID.4, which share the new high-tech MEB platform.

The BMW i3 and the Skoda Citigo E-IV also proved popular with Carwow buyers from January to March, but these too fell from the list after the lockdown.

As we reported, this has been a great year so far for EV sales, which have been skyrocketing, and this trend has been noticed also at Carwow, according to Sepi Arani, Head of OEM at Carwow.

“Carwow saw a continued but dramatic increase in alternative fuel vehicle sales in August year-on-year, with electric cars up 51% and plug-in hybrids up 70%,” he said. “Whilst the government aims to phase out sales of conventional petrol and diesel cars by 2035, many consumers have already become far more environmentally aware since experiencing the positive impact lockdown had on air pollution, not just locally, but globally.”

Among the names on this list you might notice that Tesla is not present and that is due the fact that the Californian company does not sell its vehicles through Carwow.
