Nissan rolls out green 70 number plates for EVs at dealerships

Nissan dealers are preparing for the advent of the green registration era for its all-electric models, which will be fitted with the new number plate. This initiative was first introduced by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps in June as part of a wider plan to drive a ‘green economic recovery.’

The new eye-catching green flash on the left-hand side will be used to easily highlight the fact that those models are electric vehicles and therefore are emissions free.

Nissan models with 70 plates will begin to circulate on the road with this new green badge, just to show what they would look like once the scheme is rolled out nationwide this autumn.

There are certain benefits from having this new green plate as it will be easier for cars to be identified as zero-emission vehicles, helping local authorities design and implement new policies to encourage people to own and drive them, such as cheaper parking and free entry into zero-emission zones.

It does not come as a surprise that Nissan has been chosen for this trial as the Japanese automaker has been at the forefront of EV technology thanks to the widely popular Leaf, and its new very exciting SUV Ariya.

The company is happy to support the government’s plan to reach net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050 as Nissan is aware that electric mobility will be a key factor in order to achieve the ambitious goal.

A Nissan spokesman said: ”Anything that encourages electric vehicle use is to be encouraged and we think the green plates will prove incredibly useful in terms of raising awareness of the benefits of emission-free motoring.”

The exact date of when the wider roll out will happen is not yet known, but the Department of Transport has confirmed that the green plates will be arriving this autumn.
