Audi have unveiled an app for Apple and Android smartphones called EV&me which will compare the costs of a user’s current car with those of an Audi e-tron EV. Audi developed the app in partnership with Futurice to track journeys and tally up the running costs as compared with the e-tron 50. Future all-electric models will be added to the app so users can compare multiple vehicles at once. IN a world where EV prices are set to tumble substantially over the next two years, WhichEV considers the German manufacturer's move to ignore the outside world by getting customers to focus on old Audi Vs new Audi.
The app hopes to spell out potential benefits of switching to an EV in a practical way based on each individual’s specific needs. It can calculate how many charges a user would need and show savings on fuel and other ownership costs on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
Andrew Doyle, Director of Audi UK, said, “As a quick cost comparison tool, the EV&me app is extremely useful for any motorist – not just Audi customers. But the app also offers users far more as an overall EV hub and can be a valuable reference point for every aspect of the Audi e-Tron ownership experience.”
Anna Chudley, Electric Vehicles Programmes Manager for Audi UK, said, “We know that many drivers are keen to learn about the various benefits of EVs but find it difficult to easily disseminate all the associated information when it comes to making the switch. Which is why EV&me makes it as simple as possible for those on the fence to see how much they can save in an Audi EV and, crucially, using real-life data.”
If convinced, users can book test drives from within the app or be connected with an EV specialist to chat. For users without access to EV charging infrastructure, EV&me includes a charging station locator and informs users of EV incentive schemes and grants.
The app also offers a tour of Audi’s electric and plug-in hybrid range, an E-tron customisation platform, and a guide to all current finance offers on the range. WhichEV recently reported that Audi are offering e-tron leases for around £300 a month, relatively cheap for an EV costing close to £60,000.
It's easy on the eye and maintains Audi’s classy aesthetic, with a minimalist colour scheme, clear fonts and helpful use of graphics. It is also free to download so can compete for attention with top apps like Clash of Clans and Fortnite Mobile – though we guess you'll have to work hard to make browsing the potential benefits of switching to an EV more exciting than a 100-person Battle Royale or plundering an opponent’s elixir supplies.
