Humax Unveils Smart Home Charger at Everything Electric with Plans for Broader Expansion

Humax, a familiar name in UK homes for its digital entertainment products, has set its sights on the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its new 7.4kW home charger. The ECORD has its first UK unveiling at Everything Electric London, which takes place at the Excel this Easter weekend. This marks the company's first foray into the EV world, leveraging its established presence and expertise in consumer electronics and software.

“We've been serving the UK community with technology for years,” said Insia Ishtiaq, Marketing Manager at Humax. “You know us for Humax TVs and set-top boxes. With our experience in both software and consumer electronics, we saw the EV sector as a natural next step.”

The Humax home charger offers a range of features designed for convenience and user-friendliness. It comes with a standard option of either a 4-meter or 7-meter cable and boasts smart functionality. Users can control charging via an RFID card or the Humax app, which even allows guest access – perfect for sharing charging privileges with friends and family.

Sustainability is another key focus for Humax. The charger is compatible with solar energy, enabling users to power their EVs directly from their home solar panels or combine solar with grid power for a more eco-friendly charging experience. Additionally, the charger is OLEZ compliant, meaning UK customers may be eligible for government grants to help with installation costs.

“Our strength lies in our software,” emphasized Ishtiaq. “The app allows for control and monitoring, while the charger itself comes with a three-year warranty. We're confident in our product and have a dedicated customer support team to address any queries or issues.”

Looking beyond home charging, Humax has ambitious plans for the UK EV market. The company also showcased its commercial charging solutions at the recent Everything Electric Show, including a 22kW AC charger and a 100kW DC fast charger.

These high-powered options are designed for public use in car parks and service stations, hinting at Humax's intention to become a comprehensive EV charging provider.

While tight-lipped about specific user numbers, Ishtiaq acknowledged Humax's established presence in the UK consumer electronics market, spanning over 25 years. “We see this new EV charging venture as a way to expand our identity and grow alongside the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape,” she remarked.

The Humax 7.4kW home charger is now available in the UK, priced at £599 for the unit alone and £999 for installation included. The company is also offering special deals at the Everything Electric Show, including a chance to win a free charger, a £150 voucher towards purchase, or a £50 voucher.

This move by Humax signifies the increasing competition in the UK's EV charging sector. With established consumer electronics brands entering the fray, consumers can expect a wider variety of charging solutions and potentially more competitive pricing in the coming years.
