FairCharge launches EV mythbusting book at the Everything Electric Show

FairCharge, a leading electric vehicle (EV) advocacy group, has taken a significant step towards demystifying electric vehicles by publishing the “Little Book of EV Myths Truths – Facts not Fiction.” This publication aims to address and correct 21 common misconceptions about EVs, providing factual rebuttals to widespread myths such as the erroneous belief that EVs catch fire more frequently than combustion engine vehicles or that mining for battery metals is more environmentally damaging than extracting and burning oil.

The book is the result of a collaboration with the RAC and is supported by organisations including FullyCharged Live, Stop Burning Stuff, ChargeSafe, and RechargeUK. It will be available for free in hard copy at the FairCharge stand during the Everything Electric Show at the Excel Centre in London from April 28th to 30th. Additionally, a downloadable version will be made accessible post-event.

Quentin Willson, the founder of FairCharge, emphasised the importance of the guide in helping to separate fact from fiction, noting that “so many myths and misunderstandings have built up around EVs and electrification that we thought we’d publish a handy guide to help.” He also highlighted the detrimental impact these myths have on potential EV buyers, citing an instance where a person was deterred from purchasing an EV due to unfounded concerns about battery disposal.

Simon Williams, RAC head of policy, echoed the need for such educational initiatives, pointing out the abundance of myths that obstruct EV adoption. He praised FairCharge's efforts to dispel these myths and stressed the importance of spreading positive messages about EVs to prepare drivers for their next vehicle purchase. Williams affirmed RAC's commitment to supporting FairCharge's mission and spreading the truth about the benefits of electric vehicles.
