Automobili Pininfarina begins production of Batista hyper GT

Italian car design firm, Pininfarina has started production of the world’s first pure-electric hyper GT in Cambiano, Italy.

Named Battista, the most powerful production car ever designed and built in Italy will start shipping to customers worldwide this summer, with the first unit landing in North America in August.

“The Battista hyper GT is the realisation of a dream, which began with design icon Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina’s ambition to create a beautiful car bearing only the Pininfarina name,” said Per Svantesson, CEO of Automobili Pininfarina.

With 1,874 horsepower and 2,340 Nm of torque from a four-motor electric powertrain, the Battista accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in under 2 seconds, faster than a current Formula 1 car.

The hypercar features a 120kWh battery, which provides power to four electric motors – one at each wheel – with a combined range of up to 476 km on a single charge.

Priced at £2 million, the luxury hypercar will be available to only 150 customers with each model individually hand-crafted by the artisans at Atelier. The company claims that each Battista takes 10 weeks to assemble from start to finish, with 10 craftspeople assembling each car for more than 1,250 hours.

“With Battista we have an opportunity to bring true personalisation and craftsmanship to an entirely new sector,” said Sara Campagnolo, Director of Pininfarina’s Colour & Material Design.

“Merging innovative technology with Pininfarina’s rich design heritage is a real privilege, using sustainable materials and processes that we will take forward and elevate with future projects.”

Customers who visit the Atelier, which was recently updated with a commissioning lounge for prospective owners, will have the opportunity to meet the team behind the vehicle, work together with the team to tailor the design of their car, and even see it being built.
