Volkswagen announces first fully-electric limousine

Volkswagen has released design sketches of the first fully electric limousine, ID. AERO, a concept car with a four-door model and an elegant design.

Aimed at the upper-middle class in China, the ID. AERO is based on the German automaker’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB). The style elements of the car include flowing lines, a sleek exterior and an aerodynamic front and roof, which the company claims will help in reducing energy consumption and increase the driving range of the vehicle.

While advancing further development into a software-oriented mobility provider through its ACCELERATE strategy, Volkswagen is also looking to expand the ID. family in the high-volume upper-middle-class segment.

The production version of the limousine is expected to enter the Chinese automobile market later next year, while the corresponding model for markets in North America and Europe will also be presented this year. Production for these markets will begin at the Volkswagen plant in Emden.

Last year, Volkswagen sold more than 260,000 electric vehicles worldwide, more than ever before.
