Toyota has announced the launch of it all-electric mid-size SUV, the Toyota bZ4X, which goes up to 317 miles on a single charge with a starting on-road price of £41,950.
The bZ4X is the Japanese brand’s first fully electric car as well as the first model in Toyota’s bZ “Beyond Zero” range of zero-emission models. The car features a modular architecture (eTNGA) that integrates the battery unit into the vehicle structure to give it extra rigidity and a low center of gravity.
Developed in partnership with Subaru, the bZ4X comes with off-road capabilities and is available in both front and all-wheel drive. While the FWD model has a single 150kW motor and a driving range of 317 miles, the AWD version has 160kW of power divided equally between front and rear motors and a 286-mile driving range.
The FWD version has an acceleration of 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds whereas the AWD delivers the same in 6.9 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 100mph.

Toyota has guaranteed that the 71.4kWh lithium-ion battery unit will retain at least 70% of its capacity for up to 10 years or one million kilometers (620,000 miles) driven (while most manufacturers offer 8 years and 100-150,000 miles). The company also claims fast charging to 80 percent capacity in around 30 minutes, in normal temperature conditions. Although initially, the car will have a 6.6kW charger on board, this will be replaced with an 11kW unit in models produced later in 2022.
With an open and spacious cabin, the bZ4X comes with the latest multimedia technologies and seamless connectivity for entertainment and comfort. In addition to measures in place for monitoring the battery’s performance and protecting it in the event of an impact, the car also has an advanced driver assistance system, which Toyota says improves safety for all road users
