Volkswagen Group to launch all-electric pick-up and rugged SUV in the US

Volkswagen Group has announced it will launch an all-electric pick-up and off-road SUV in the United States.

The German-born multinational car manufacturer has also revealed its plans to create a distinct, independent company, where its pick-ups and SUVs will be designed, engineered, and manufactured in the US for the US market. This comes as the company pushes its well-established US brand, Scout, into electrification.

Fans can expect to see the first electrified Scout prototypes revealed next year, with production scheduled to start in 2026.

Volkswagen AG CEO, Herbert Diess, said: “After Volkswagen’s successful turnaround in the U.S., we are now taking the opportunity to further strengthen our position in one of the most significant growth markets for EVs. Electrification provides a historic opportunity to enter the highly attractive pick-up and R-SUV segment as a Group, underscoring our ambition to become a relevant player in the U.S. market.”

The company hopes that success in the R-SUV & pick-up segments will be key to strengthening its position in the US market, in which it hopes to achieve a market share of ten percent. This will be another pillar in Volkwagen’s strategy to become a key global EV manufacturer.

Volkswagen CFO, Arno Antlitz, said: “The company we will establish this year will be a separate unit and brand within the Volkswagen Group to be managed independently. This aligns with the new Group steering model – small units that act agilely and have access to our tech platforms to leverage synergies.”
