Hyundai has introduced its 2023 model year by updating its IONIQ 5 range. The new vehicle is equipped with a larger battery to make for a longer-range drive and more motor power.
The latest model is now available with a 77.4kWh battery pack, which increases its range and power to 315 miles and 325 PS respectively. Alongside this, it has several model enhancements and new features.

The updated model comes with video-based digital interior and exterior mirrors. Mounted in the rear spoiler, the Digital Centre Mirror (DCM) optimises visibility by providing an unobstructed, panoramic rear-facing view of the car. Meanwhile, the new model retains the IONIQ 5 range’s standard battery heater and conditioning feature, adapting its battery temperature while travelling to support optimal changing conditions when reaching the charging point. This improves its real-life charging performance in hot or cold ambient conditions. The function activates automatically when a high-power charging point is entered into the vehicle’s navigation system using connected routing.
On top of this, the latest model has a Namsan Edition, offering customers the choice of the highest possible equipment and powertrain specifications. Honouring South Korea’s Namsan Mountain, after which the edition is named, it has a full-length vision roof presenting an unobstructed panoramic view, while the leather upholstery, relaxation seats and spacious interior cossets occupants within. It also offers Digital Side Mirrors (DSM), which reduce air resistance and will provide customers with an enhanced rear view, even in inclement weather.
The feature, which is already available for Korean-spec IONIQ 5 models, will be available in Europe for the first time in a Hyundai Motor Group vehicle. Available from £52,900, the feature’s DSM replace traditional door mirrors with externally mounted cameras that project their image onto OLED monitors for better visibility and improved safety.
In a range realignment, the SE Connect 58 kWh is now available from £39,400. With a range of up to 238 miles and a 16.7 kWh/100km efficiency (WLTP), the SE Connect offers a high level of standard specification including front multi-function reflector and rear LED lamps. It offers a 12/3in audio and navigation screen with Bluelink connectivity, wireless device charging and adaptive cruise control. Vehicle dynamics benefit from the addition of smart frequency dampers to improve the response of front and rear suspension and increase both handling response and ride comfort.
The Premium IONIQ 5 models, priced at £41, 900, have these optimal visibility features, but also a Vehicle to Load (V2L) system, part leather upholstery, upgraded soft touch interior, including 64-colour ambient lighting and sliding centre console. Another optional feature on the Premium is a heat pump, which will enhance the efficiency of the battery during inclement weather when heating the cabin. These models are available with both the 58. kWh and new 77.4kWh pack that delivers an increased range of up to 315 miles (WLTP) and a power increase of 11PS over the previous 72.6kWh battery.
The multi award-wining IONIQ 5, which was first launched in February 2021, is the first model based on the Hyundai Motor Group’s first dedicated Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) platform, Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
