Smart home charging provider Ohme has teamed up with fleet operator Motability Operations to help its customers with disabilities make the switch to EVs.

Motability Operations supports more than 640,000 people with disabilities in achieving greater independence through access to affordable, worry-free mobility.

Ohme’s Home Pro smart charger enables customers to save money when charging as it allows them to pre-set their charging periods when prices are lower and when renewable energy generation is at its highest.

“Our customers have over 600,000 cars on the road in the UK,” said Andrew Miller, chief executive at Motability Operations. “To make the transition to electric as easy as possible for our customers we have to find practical and affordable ways for them to charge their vehicles and help to reduce anxiety over range.”

The system works by Motability’s customers exchanging their higher rate mobility allowance to lease a new EV.

“Here at Ohme, we are delighted to announce this partnership with Motability Operations and are looking forward to helping their customers in their transition to electric vehicles,” said Ohme’s chief executive, David Watson.

“Our Home Pro is the best EV smart charger on the market and can help to reduce charging costs and CO2 by up to 70% compared to standard charging, so we are looking forward to helping Motability customers realise those savings.”

It follows Ohme being recently named ‘Best Electric Charging Point Provider’ by Business Motoring.

WhichEV recently asked wheelchair user Roger Warner what is needed to make public charging more accessible.
