EZ-Charge to expand production after government announcement results in flood of new enquiries

EZ-Charge said it has been “overwhelmed” with new enquiries for its EV chargers after proposed government legislation made them the perfect off-the-shelf solutions for the UK’s local authorities.

Following the government’s new Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy last month, there has been a heightened interest in EZ-Charge’s whole range of charging solutions.

These include its home chargers and 50kWh rapids, though its advanced 22kWh unit has received the most attention.

The 22kWh unit is believed to be the only charger on the market that currently meets all the requirements laid out in the new legislation.

Features include contactless payment, open data tech, a computer performance management system, 99%+ uptime, 24/7 helpline and roaming capabilities – which means all drivers can use the charger without any membership or registration.

This upsurge in interest could result in the creation of dozens of new jobs at the company’s HQ in Oxfordshire, with the plan to manufacture charging units with local partners to add social value and minimise environmental impact.

“We were thrilled when the government announced its new strategy last week and even happier when we realised that the charger features demanded by the new legislation had been built into our chargers as ‘must-haves’ from the very beginning,” said EZ-Charge founder and chief executive, Phil Shadbolt OBE.

“However, we were not expecting the announcement to translate into actual interest from potential customers quite so quickly. We’ve literally been overwhelmed and we’ve had to go back to the drawing board to dramatically revise our production schedule upwards.”

He added: “Our speciality as a brand is working with local authority partners to devise, install and manage off-street charging hubs in the hearts of communities where people work, live and play. It’s local authorities like this that will be keen to apply for the new government funding and our proven track record from leading projects like Oxfordshire Park & Charge makes us the ideal partner to support their bids.”

The announcement follows EZ-Charge landing a very large deal with Mobility Werk Group to roll out its charging tech across Malaysia.
