Hyundai has announced that its 2023 all-electric IONIQ 5 CUV will get a new 77.4kWh battery, several range enhancements, and other new features to improve the driving experience.
First launched in 2021, the IONIQ 5 is built on Hyundai’s dedicated BEV architecture and has won a number of industry awards, including ‘Best Car of the Year’.
“IONIQ 5 has proved to be highly successful in the 12 months since its launch, both in terms of sales and brand building,” said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, vice president of marketing and product at Hyundai Motor Europe.
“The segment is growing increasingly competitive, and we will be offering enhanced features to defend our position as technology leader in the automotive industry.”
Video-based digital interior and exterior mirrors are to be added to the IONIQ 5 to optimise visibility by providing a panoramic rear-facing view of the car. Digital side mirrors will also be introduced to enhance the rear-view even further and reduce air resistance.
A new battery condition feature will enable the 5 to adapt its battery temperature automatically while on the go so that optimal charging conditions are assured when reaching the charging station. The function will start automatically when a driver inputs a charging point into the navigation system.
Smart frequency dampers will improve the response of the rear axle suspension to increase ride comfort as well as improving both body control and handling.
Hyundai is yet to confirm any pricing or specification, and the 2023 IONIQ 5 model with the 77.4kWh battery is not currently available in the UK. We do know that the 58kWh battery pack will continue to be available.
