Optional over-the-air performance upgrade out now for Polestar 2

Swedish premium EV manufacturer Polestar has released a performance software upgrade for its Polestar 2 Long range dual motor that is available as an over-the-air update for £850 in selected European markets.

Polestar says the upgrade will add 67bhp and 15lb ft of torque taking the total power system to 476bhp and 502lb ft. This will shave 0.3 seconds off its 0-62mph sprint giving the Polestar 2 a revised acceleration of 4.4 seconds.

The additional power and torque are available as a ‘boost’ between 44mph and 80mph resulting in more rapid acceleration in the mid-range. Mid-range performance between 50mph and 75mph sees even more acceleration taking just 2.2 seconds, which is half a second quicker than in the standard car.

Drivers can install the upgrade remotely by downloading it via the Polestar ‘Extras’ web shop so customers do not have to visit a dealer.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s chief executive, says: “The upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers.”

“The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement.”

The new power upgrade is initially available to customers in the UK, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Germany, and Austria.

Polestar’s closest rival Tesla has been offering acceleration boost upgrades since December 2019 for its Tesla Model 3 long range, dual-motor model.

The Swedish marque is looking to further strengthen its financial position by providing its customers with an enhanced driving experience ahead of its proposed business combination with Gores Guggenheim, which it announced in September this year.
