SYNETIQ now recycles over 96% of each vehicle it processes

The UK’s largest salvage and vehicle recycling company, SYNETIQ, has increased its vehicle recycling capabilities as it steps up its commitment to sustainability.

SYNETIQ revealed that it now recycles 96.3% of each vehicle it processes. The new figure is a record for the company, which processes around 70,000 salvage and end of life vehicles every year.

According to SYNETIQ, the 96.3% figure is the highest in the vehicle recycling industry. The company said that the high recycling rate is the result of training, data systems management and innovative operational processes.

SYNETIQ added that the biggest issue facing the salvage and vehicle recycling sector is electric vehicles, as electric vehicle powertrains prove difficult to recycle effectively. The company said that it is working with car manufacturers to ensure that future electric vehicles can be recycled more easily.

The announcement follows SYNETIQ’s recent success at the 2021 Zero Waste Awards in October, where the company won a four-star rating. The Zero Waste Awards commends companies and organisations that have shown a commitment to reducing, reusing, and recycling.

The company also launched an Automotive Carbon Literacy toolkit in partnership with Auto Trader, and with Nissan Motor Corporation, Marshall Motor Group, Lookers, Motorpoint and AvailableCar. The toolkit is designed to help the automotive industry reduce its carbon footprint.
