New Kia e-Niro debuts at 2021 Seoul Mobility Show

Kia has unveiled its new, second-generation e-Niro at the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show in Korea, reflecting the company’s commitment to building a more sustainable future.

The e-Nero’s exterior has had a complete refresh with a wide rear pillar to improve aerodynamics, simple lines, and its trademark ‘tiger face’ has evolved, extending from the bonnet right through to the rugged bumper below. To complete the front end, Kia has installed a set of ‘heartbeat’ LED daytime running lights.

The design takes inspiration from nature, with its colour, material and finish striking a balance between an environmentally responsible approach and a future-orientated look. Kia says the front-end design also takes influences from the company’s 2019 Habaniro concept.

Inside, the vehicle cabin has been heavily updated too. The seats are made from Bio PU with Tencel from eucalyptus leaves, the headlining comes from recycled wallpaper and BTX free paint is used on the door panels to reduce waste and minimise the environmental impact.

The off-centre dash curves around the front occupants with horizontal and diagonal lines opposing each other “create a calming, yet irregular aesthetic.”

On the dash there is a single-piece display that combines digital instruments and a widescreen infotainment screen. An ambient mood light crosses the dash as well to create a more welcoming space. Kia has also incorporated coat hangers within the Niro’s headrests.

Ho Sung Song, president and chief executive of Kia, said: “Kia continues to take steps towards a more sustainable future, inviting everyone to join the movement into the new mobility era.

“The all-new Kia Niro makes it simple to practice a sustainable lifestyle with its eco-friendly materials, advanced technology and electric powertrains while it also fulfils the practical needs of customers.”

The e-Niro will be on display at the Seoul Mobility Show from November 25 to December 5 2021.
