Renault’s 2022 Kangoo Van E-Tech to make debut in Lyon on 16 November

Renault is set to launch an all-new version of the popular Kangoo Van E-Tech that will make its public debut at the SOLUTRANS exhibition in Lyon from 16-20 November. It will be sold throughout Europe from spring 2022.

With over 10 years’ experience making EVs, Renault is looking to flex its muscles once again by launching a new take on a bestseller.

Accounting for one in five electric utility vehicles sold in Europe, the Kangoo Van E-Tech has already “won the hearts” of more than 70,000 professional customers since it launched in 2011.

Its new 45kWh lithium-ion battery gives a range of up to 186 miles on the WLTP cycle so that LCV drivers can have enhanced peace of mind for any work trip.

There is a choice of three charging methods for the Kangoo.

Standard models have a 11kW three-phase chameleon charger suitable for home charging setups. Optional chargers include a 22kW chameleon charger and an 80kW rapid DC charger that can recuperate 106 miles of range in 30 minutes. The Kangoo’s battery can be charged from 15% to 100% in 3 hours and 50 minutes when plugged into a 11kW wallbox and takes under six hours on a 7.4kW wallbox.

It has a 90kW electric motor that gives 245Nm of torque for a smooth driving experience.

Renault says drivers can choose between three regenerative braking levels.

Customers can also select from six driving modes, tailoring their style of driving to the road conditions, with information displayed on a customisable 10-inch instrument panel.

To maximise the van’s range all year round, a heat pump has been fitted in the air conditioning system.

Renault said: “This works by taking heat from the air around the vehicle to warm the passenger compartment without using an electric resistor that consumes energy. The heat pump performs best when the temperature is between -15°C and +15°C, a very common range for the cold seasons in most European countries.”

Technology wise, it has the Renault Easy Link multimedia system with 8-inch display, automatic parking brake, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and the Motorway and Traffic Companion marking the first step toward autonomous driving.

Other new available add-ons include a heated windscreen, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Storage volume is up to 3.9m3, it has 600kg of payload and 1,500 kg of towing capacity.

The manufacturer is yet to disclose any pricing for the electric van.
