The 2022 revision of Mark2's popular Scrambler eBike will begin shipping in November and there's a substantial discount available for anyone who orders early. At launch, the Mark2 Scrambler C will be £2,199 inc vat, but there is an early bird discount of £500 if you buy before the start of October. Mark2 claims that this is the most powerful eBike available in this price range, so it's been firmly targeted at those who want to go off-road. WhichEV checks the specs.

The lightweight 6061 aluminium frame uses the kind of metal that you'd normally find in heavy duty structures like rail coaches, truck frames and military bridges. Off-road lumps and bumps will be softened by the RST Blaze RL front fork suspension (that can travel up to 10cm) and the whole thing weighs in at 22kg with a 375Wh Promovec smart battery.

Scrambler C aims to be a hard-tail gravel electric mountain bike with a 250W Danish Promovec crank motor that's suitable for exploring rough terrain. The Promovec motor delivers 90Nm of torque via the twist throttle and you'll get 22 to 50 miles of range – depending how inhospitable your chosen track happens to be.

Mark2 owner, Ed Thomas, told us, “Most centre motor eBikes currently available give you 50 to 80 Nm – so we are excited to bring the Scrambler C to our UK customers. You’ll struggle to find an eBike anywhere near as ‘torquie’ as this for the price on the market today.”

In our experience, an eBike with a lot of torque can allow you to cycle up a fairly steep hill in 3rd gear, without breaking sweat. As part of the Scrambler C's final testing, we're told that the Mark2 HQ team rode them to exhaustion through the hills of Wales over the course of two weeks.

The available power is adjusted via the 10 speed Shimano Deore derailleur gears (11-42T), with Shimano RapidFire shift. Stopping is equally important and Mark2 has fitted Shimano hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front and 160mm rear rotors.

There's a 460Wh battery option, which will give you an additional 20% range. You can recharge Mark2 battery packs in 4-6 hours on a regular wall socket and the large LCD will let you know your battery level as well as how much assist you are getting and what range you have left.

“The 2022 edition of the Scrambler C is available to pre-order now, with delivery scheduled for November”, Thomas explained. “It's currently offered at a discounted price of £1699 and will be £2,199 after 1st October”.

Scrambler C is available with a 17″ (model 430) or 19″ (model 480) frame.

In terms of warranty, the cycle parts have two years, the battery has three years (upgradeable) as does the motor – while the frame is guaranteed for five years. You can see the full spec here.
