A new study by Hive has highlighted that homes with modern eco-credentials such as EV chargers and solar panels will command a higher premium than those without in 10 years’ time.
Property experts have predicted that homes with EV chargers installed will be worth on average 9% more when sold.
Also, estate agents have already started to see a surge in houses that are EV friendly with four in five (82%) stating a rise in customers searching for homes with an EV charging point already installed.
The study has also pointed out that not just the EV chargers are set to have an impact on the value of a home as solar panels and heat pumps will also play an important role.
In fact, Tim Bannister, Director of Data at property website Rightmove, has explained that as the country is gearing up towards the all-electric revolution different requirements will come into play when buying a new home.
“As we look ahead, it’s very likely that a home’s sustainability credentials will join the list of new priorities that buyers are considering,” he said. “If there are affordable options for homeowners to make their homes greener, then they could become a more commonplace and practical addition to many homes and have the potential to command a premium and provide an additional selling point for homes in the future.”
Hive has also announced that the company will be launching its first at-home smart EV Charger later this month, to help the UK reach its target of 2.3 million charging points by 2030.
Hive EV Charging will allow customers to charge their electric vehicle whenever they want, from wherever they are. Homeowners will charge their EV, as well as control their heating, lighting and security from their phone paving the way for the future home.
