Polestar and sister company Volvo’s partnership with Plugsurfing has taken a strong step forward as it will include preferential IONITY pricing for Polestar 2 and Volvo Recharge owners.
Drivers will now be able to charge at any of IONITY’s public fast chargers at a heavily reduced rate of 0,35 EUR per kWh.
Included with their Polestar 2 and Volvo Recharge models, the Plugsurfing agreement already enables increased public charging convenience by providing access to over 200,000 public charging points in Europe with one platform for authentication and payment, regardless of the charging point operator.
From 1 July 2021, utilising the supplied Plugsurfing card or the linked, updated Plugsurfing app at IONITY chargers will enable the preferential rate with no additional requirements for Polestar 2 and Volvo Recharge owners.
As WhichEV reported, IONITY is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz, Ford, BMW and the Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche. Its ambitious goal is to establish 400 high-power charging stations across Europe, paving the way to pan-European EV travel.
The new offer will benefit everyone from the company to the drivers and ultimately advance the all-electric revolution, according to Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO.

As WhichEV reported, Polestar has announced that the Polestar 2 model range is expanding to three variants. The existing 300 kW (408 hp) dual motor setup, with a large 78 kWh battery pack, is joined by two front-mounted single motor variants – available either with the same long-range battery and a 170-kW motor, or a smaller, standard-range battery (64 kWh) and a 165-kW motor.
Volvo’s first all-electric car, the XC40 Recharge Twin AWD, recently became available in the UK. The company has also just opened orders for its C40 electric sportback.
