Tesla Model 3 is EV with most Internet interest in Europe but not in every country

Analysis from Motorguard has found out that the most popular electric car in Europe by Internet search volume during 2020 was the Tesla Model 3.

The findings show that Tesla still dominates the interests of Europeans when it comes to EVs. The Tesla Model 3 is in first place with 830,360 searches across the continent.

It is followed by the surprising Renault Zoe which made a big impact on the market in 2020 and had 369,390 searches throughout the year. The podium is closed by the Porsche Taycan with 294,290 searches.

Just outside the podium there is another Tesla, the Model S with over 270,000 searches and the Nissan Leaf comes in 5th place.

The research has also highlighted that not only is the Model 3 the most searched EV in Europe, but it is the number one in the majority of European countries.

Interestingly, in Scandinavian countries such as Norway and Sweden, the Polestar 2 is still the preferred electric vehicle. This should not come as a surprise as the EV company is owned by Volvo, the flagship manufacturer of Sweden.

The Taycan was the most searched EV in Poland. Meanwhile, the Zoe was the favourite of Portugal, Romania and Hungary.

Motorguard has also found out which European countries search for EVs the most per capita.  Norway takes the lead with nearly 2,000 searches, followed by its neighbours Denmark and Sweden in 2nd and 3rd place. The Netherlands takes 4th place with over 1,000 searches and Iceland takes 5th place with just over 800 searches.

As we reported, Norway EV uptake can be traced back to the 90s and to the popular pop group A-ha. The country is now well on its way to reach its goal of 100% new vehicle sales to be electric by 2025.
