Hyundai launches charging service for owners of its EVs

Hyundai Motor has launched an integrated public charging service called Charge myHyundai, which offers access to the largest charging network in the UK to its electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle customers.

Charge myHyundai gives Hyundai drivers access to over 15,000 charging points across the UK. Customers will be able to use charge points from most of the main operators via a single platform, with a flexible pay-as-you-go tariff making the use of public charging simpler and more convenient.

The service app can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices. It enables intelligent route planning to help users find charging stations easily at their final destination or along a route. Users have real-time price information of the charging points in the app and full price transparency of the charging service.

Customers can also access the public charging networks via a single RFID card. Upon registration, users will be sent an RFID card to use as a backup for areas with poor mobile phone reception.

The new service has been created to ease consumers’ lives and accelerate the all-electric revolution by offering easy access to a wide and reliable charging infrastructure, according to Ashley Andrew, Hyundai Motor UK’s Managing Director.

“We’re excited to introduce Charge myHyundai to the UK for Hyundai electric vehicle customers as we know that public charging is one of the biggest perceived barriers for EV ownership,” she said. “Charge myHyundai provides a comprehensive service where customers can easily locate and access public chargers, with a simplified payment solution giving BEV & PHEV owners peace-of-mind.”

Hyundai’s service arrives in the UK alongside Korean sister company Kia’s KiaCharge, which offers a slightly lower number of UK chargers but otherwise similar features.

We have also reported that Hyundai has launched the Ioniq 5 midsize CUV during a virtual world premiere event. Drivers can select from two battery pack options, either 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh, and two electric motor layouts, either with a rear motor only or with both front and rear motors.
