Renault electric trucks find first buyers

Renault has just entered the market for fully electric trucks with the announcement that its first two 100% electric medium duty vehicles have found their first buyers.

One of the companies to purchase from the truck range is Warburtons, the UK’s largest bakery brand, which will use the Renault Trucks D Z.E. 16t to transport around six tonnes of bread and bakery products to multiple locations around London using only battery power and emitting no tailpipe emissions.

The other company to use a new fully electric Renault truck is SUEZ recycling and recovery UK. The 26t vehicle will be used in Bristol to collect commercial waste from city centre locations for processing at the company’s recycling and reprocessing site, reducing the city’s carbon footprint in multiple ways.

According to Carlos Rodrigues, Managing Director of Renault Trucks UK and Ireland, this is just the start of the commitment to greener solutions by the French company.

“We will share more of Renault Trucks’ sustainability commitments later in the year, but we are hugely excited to be announcing the sales of these first two fully electric vehicles today and look forward to many other organisations joining us in the coming months,” he said.

Renault’s new electric trucks will range from 3.1 to 26 tonnes and will be produced at the manufacturer’s plant in Blainville-sur-Orne inCalvados, France.

The electric truck market is rapidly expanding as multiple players are starting to deliver their vehicles. As we reported, Volta trucks will also be on the road by 2022. Volta’s 16-tonne vehicle is specifically designed for inner-city freight deliveries and propelled by a 160 to 200 kWh battery size with a range of 90 to 125 miles.
