Cupra reborn with stronger warranty in its DNA

Company hopes to create peace of mind with five year guarantee on new cars

Cupra UK has announced a significant enhancement to its customer service offering, introducing a five-year warranty across its entire model range, starting immediately. This comprehensive warranty scheme is designed to provide Cupra owners with extended peace of mind and assurance in the longevity and quality of their vehicles.

Effective for all orders placed from the start of April 2024, the warranty will apply to both new factory orders and vehicles already in stock. It breaks down into a two-year manufacturer’s warranty with unlimited mileage, followed by an additional three years’ coverage or up to 90,000 miles, whichever threshold is reached first.

Marcus Gossen, Director of SEAT and Cupra UK, expressed the company's commitment to customer satisfaction and confidence. By extending the standard warranty period, Cupra aims to underscore the reliability and quality of its vehicles, ensuring that customers feel supported well beyond their purchase. Gossen highlighted that this move is part of Cupra's strategy to make its vehicle range more accessible and appealing, by offering greater peace of mind on the road.

Prior to this update, Cupra vehicles were covered by a three-year warranty, up to 60,000 miles, with the option for owners to purchase extended coverage up to a maximum of five years or 90,000 miles. This change represents a significant improvement in terms of value and support, with the extended warranty now included as standard without additional cost.

We feel comfortable guessing that Cupra has had a chance to look at a lot of vehicle data and they've worked out that there's so much less to go wrong on an EV, that they can extend the warranty by an additional two years – with little or no risk to profits.

The terms of Cupra's paint warranty and body protection warranty will remain at three years and 12 months respectively, ensuring vehicles maintain their aesthetic appeal and structural integrity. Additionally, the warranty for the battery of the Cupra Born, continues to be set at eight years or 100,000 miles – offering comprehensive coverage for one of the most critical components of electric vehicles.

This announcement is likely to be well received by both current and prospective Cupra customers, offering them enhanced coverage and confidence in their vehicle's performance and reliability over a longer period. It also reinforces Cupra’s commitment to customer satisfaction and its confidence in the quality of its product offerings.

One of the biggest worries with electric vehicles in ‘second hand value'. The higher that value, the easier it becomes to offer finance deals etc on new cars. If Cupra vehicles complete three years with their first owners, then the next driver in line can buy with the peace of mind that comes with a two year manufacturer's warranty. Useful stuff. The warranty comes on top of Cupra dropping its prices in February.

Since its launch in 2018, Cupra has rapidly grown to become one of Europe's leading car brands, known for its dynamic and high-performance vehicles. The brand has expanded its presence globally with a network of specialised sales points and has further underscored its commitment to innovation and performance by participating in the Formula E racing competition. With the introduction of the Cupra Born, the company has marked its foray into the electric vehicle market, underscoring its dedication to sustainable and cutting-edge automotive solutions.
