Helixx shows off its gamechanging cargo EV at Everything Electric

Helixx is a startup hoping to change the face of urban last mile delivery. WhichEV talked to Helixx’s CEO, Steve Pegg, at the Everything Electric show in the Excel Centre, London, about its new ultra-light EV.

WhichEV: Tell us about the Helixx vehicle.

Pegg: Helixx is the solution to the problem of electrifying last mile delivery. Our vehicle has been designed specifically for last mile. It's not a consumer vehicle, but can also provide electrification and a low barrier of entry for third party logistics drivers. It's made available at a low price point, with a subscription that starts from around about 20 at $0.25 an hour.

WhichEV: What are the specifications? How much cargo can it carry? What's the range? What’s the price?

Pegg: At Everything Electric we have the cargo version, but there are also ride hailing versions where it carries three passengers. The cargo version has 2,100 litres of cargo space, and it carries up to 600kg. It uses 2kWh modules that you can use two, four or six battery modules, giving you a range of between 80km and 150km. It will go out as a subscription, similar to software. The more time that you subscribe to, the lower the price gets. But it starts from, $0.25 an hour.

WhichEV: Will it be like a ZipCar?

Pegg: The longer subscription that you buy, the more cost effective it becomes. but if you know that you're going to use this for three years, then you take it for three years and the price comes right down.

WhichEV: When will we see these on British roads?

Pegg: The product, Helixx, isn't actually the vehicle. It's the, the manufacturing system to be able make these. It’s a franchise that provides the license for you to manufacture these or the equipment or the supply chain, all the processes. They get manufactured where they are utilized the most. In the UK, we are building a pilot facility. In 2025 or early 2026, they will be available to the UK.
